ADHD Assessments

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, concentration, impulse control, and regulation of activity levels.

ADHD can present differently from person to person. For some, this may look like difficulty sustaining attention, being easily distracted, or struggling with organisation. For others, it may involve restlessness, impulsivity, or challenges with emotional regulation. Many individuals experience a combination of these.

Assessments are available across the lifespan, for:

  • children and adolescents

  • adults seeking a diagnosis later in life

Often, people come to an assessment with questions about focus, school or work performance, emotion regulation, or a long-standing sense that things feel harder than they should.

What the Assessment Involves

An ADHD assessment is completed over a series of appointments, allowing for a thorough understanding of how attention and executive functioning are developing and impacting day-to-day life. Part of the assessment also involves considering other factors that may impact attention and regulation, such as anxiety, mood, or past experiences.

The process typically includes:

1. Initial Consultation
An initial session to understand current concerns, developmental history, and how attention, behaviour, and regulation present across different areas of life.

2. Cognitive Assessment and Attention and Executive Functioning Measures
A comprehensive cognitive assessment is completed using standardised tools (such as the WISC-V for children or WAIS-IV for adults) as well as other tasks to assess concentration, impulsivity and executive function in more detail.

3. Collateral Information
Information is gathered from multiple sources, such as parents, teachers, or partners. ADHD is a developmental condition, so it is important to understand how patterns present across different settings and over time.

4. Comprehensive Report and Feedback
A detailed report is provided outlining findings, diagnostic considerations, and tailored recommendations. A feedback session is included to discuss the results and next steps.

A Developmental and Contextual Approach

ADHD is not something that appears in only one setting or at one point in time.

As a neurodevelopmental condition, it is important to understand:

  • how patterns have developed over time

  • how they present across different environments (e.g. home, school, work)

  • how they impact day-to-day functioning

Taking this broader view helps ensure that the assessment is accurate, meaningful, and useful in guiding support.

Fees and Structure

ADHD assessments are comprehensive and completed over multiple sessions, including interviews, cognitive testing, questionnaires, and a detailed written report.

The total cost of an assessment starts at $1,800 which includes:

  • assessment sessions and cognitive testing

  • administration and scoring of standardised tools and questionnaires

  • review of collateral information (e.g. school reports)

  • a comprehensive written report

  • a feedback session to discuss outcomes and recommendations

A payment schedule can be arranged across the assessment process.

If you are unsure whether an assessment is appropriate, an initial consultation can be arranged to talk this through.

Understanding how someone’s brain works allows us to support them in ways that actually fit.
ADHD is not a deficit of attention, but a difference in how attention is regulated.

Something to Know About ADHD Assessments

An ADHD assessment is not just about determining whether someone meets diagnostic criteria.

It is about understanding how that individual thinks, learns, focuses, and regulates—and identifying what will support them most effectively moving forward.

Our aim is to provide a process that is thorough, respectful, and genuinely helpful—giving you clarity, direction, and practical next steps.
