What is ADHD?

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, concentration, impulse control, and regulation of activity levels.

ADHD can present differently from person to person. For some, this may look like difficulty sustaining attention, being easily distracted, or struggling with organisation. For others, it may involve restlessness, impulsivity, or challenges with emotional regulation. Many individuals experience a combination of these.

Assessments are available across the lifespan, for:

• children and adolescents

• adults seeking a diagnosis later in life

Often, people come to an assessment with questions about focus, school or work performance, emotion regulation, or a long-standing sense that things feel harder than they should.

What happens in an ADHD Assessment?

An ADHD assessment is completed over a series of appointments, usually over four weeks from your first session to the feedback session. We want to gain a thorough understanding of how attention and executive functioning are developing and impacting day-to-day life.

The process typically includes:

1. Initial Consultation. An initial session to understand current concerns, developmental history, and agree what the assessment needs to focus on.

2. Cognitive Assessment and Attention and Executive Functioning Measures. A comprehensive cognitive assessment is completed using standardised tools as well as other tasks to assess concentration, impulsivity and executive function in more detail.

3. Collateral Information. Information is gathered from multiple sources, such as parents, teachers, or partners. ADHD is a developmental condition, so it is important to understand how patterns present across different settings and over time.

4. Report and Feedback. A detailed report is provided outlining findings, diagnostic considerations, and individually tailored recommendations. A feedback session is included to discuss the results and next steps.

How much does an ADHD Assessment cost?

A comprehensive ADHD assessment is $1,800 and is completed over multiple sessions, including interviews, cognitive testing, questionnaires, and a detailed written report.

A payment schedule can be arranged across the assessment process rather than as a single payment.

What do you get at the end?

A comprehensive written report and a dedicated session to talk through it. Many families tell us they've previously had an assessment where they were handed a document and left to work out what to do with it. That isn't how we finish.

Your assessment includes:

• a comprehensive written report setting out findings, diagnostic considerations, your child's strengths and challenges, and tailored recommendations

• a feedback session where we go through the report together, answer your questions, and discuss what it means practically for your child and your family

• specific next-step recommendations that take account of your child's cognitive ability and strengths, the services available where you live, and your family's circumstances

• where helpful, suggested referrals to other allied health, educational or paediatric care, so you have a clear path forward

The aim is that you finish the process with a clear understanding of your child and a practical plan — not with more questions than you started with.
