NDIS and therapy
What your plan can fund here, which plan types we work with, and why assessments sit outside the scheme
AHPRA registered · Clinical Psychologist · Medicare rebates available No current waitlistWe provide psychological therapy to NDIS participants whose plans are self-managed or plan-managed, funded from Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living. Our NDIS rate is $252.99 per hour, the national price limit for psychology. We are not a registered NDIS provider, so agency-managed plans cannot be used with us. NDIS funding cannot pay for a diagnostic autism or ADHD assessment. Those are private pay in every case, for the reason set out below.
Can NDIS funding pay for an autism or ADHD assessment?
No, either before or after you have a plan.
The reason is in how the scheme is built. NDIS funds supports that build a participant's capacity: skills, function, independence. A diagnostic assessment answers a question about what is going on. It sits outside what the scheme funds, so it is not a matter of having enough money in the right category.
Two situations get confused with each other and are worth separating.
You are applying to access the NDIS
You need evidence of a diagnosis to apply. That assessment is paid for privately, by you, before you have a plan. This catches families out often. The assessment that establishes eligibility is not funded by the scheme it gives access to.
You already have a plan
Funding in an existing plan cannot be redirected to a diagnostic assessment, including where there is money unspent in Improved Daily Living. Where a support coordinator or plan manager has said otherwise, the invoice is likely to be rejected and the cost returns to you later.
The one exception
Where an assessment is conducted specifically for capacity-building purposes, to establish what supports a participant needs and how they should be delivered, that is a funded activity. It is a different piece of work to a diagnostic assessment. Different purpose, different report, and it does not produce a diagnosis. If that is what your plan or your support coordinator is asking for, tell us when you enquire and we will scope it.
What your plan can fund here
Psychological therapy. Individual sessions with a clinical psychologist, funded from Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living, under the support item Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training — Psychologist.
Our NDIS rate is $252.99 per hour, which is the national price limit the NDIA sets for psychology. We do not charge above it. This is separate from our private fee of $270 per session.
Which plans we can work with
Self-Managed · Yes · We invoice you; you claim through the myplace portal.
Plan-managed · Yes · We invoice your plan manager directly. Send us their details.
NDIA-managed · No · We are not a registered NDIS provider. Agency-managed plan can only be used with registered providers.
If your plan is agency-managed and you would like to work with us, the options are to use a registered provider instead, or to raise changing your plan management at your next plan review. That is a conversation with your planner or support coordinator.
Participants of any age
Therapy here is not limited to children. Adult participants are seen on the same terms, from the same budget, at the same rate.
Family involvement
Where working with a participant's parents or family is part of building that participant's capacity, it is funded from the same budget as their therapy. Where a family wants therapy in its own right, that sits outside the plan and is charged privately.
Home visits and travel
We can see NDIS participants at home where there is a clinical reason to. Travel time for therapy home visits is claimable against your plan at half the hourly rate, capped at thirty minutes each way. This is the NDIA's rule.
Travel for an assessment is not claimable, for the same reason the assessment itself is not. If you are arranging a mobile assessment in your home, school or daycare, both the assessment and the travel to it are private pay.
Reports for plan reviews
Where a report is needed for a plan review or reassessment, writing it is a funded activity and is charged at the same hourly rate as a session. Give us as much notice as you can. Plan review dates rarely move, and reports written under time pressure may not be as comprehensive as they need to be to get the best result for the participant.
FAQs
-
No. Diagnostic assessment is not a support the NDIS funds, whether you are applying for access or already have a plan. Assessments are private pay.
-
This is a common misunderstanding and it usually ends with the invoice being rejected, which leaves you paying it later without having planned for it. If your plan manager has confirmed something in writing, send it to us and we will look at it. We will not book an assessment on the expectation of funding that is not there.
-
No. We work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. Agency-managed plans require a registered provider.
-
No. If you have a plan with Improved Daily Living funding, we can work with you whatever is in the diagnosis column. If you do not have a plan, therapy is available privately, with a Medicare rebate where you have a referral.

The NDIA sets a maximum hourly price for psychology, currently $252.99 per hour, and providers cannot charge participants above it. Our private fee is $270 per session. It is a rule about NDIS billing rather than a discount or a surcharge.
